The 2015-2020 Ready To Learn (RTL) grant is focused on creating public media content to promote learning in the core areas of science and literacy. PBS and CPB are committed to creating engaging multi-platform content collections that meet kids where they are, anytime, and in various ways. Content created will include video, games/apps, and offline activities designed for children ages 2-8 years that relate to and support each other through story narrative and curriculum goals. Many of these experiences will integrate personalized and adaptive learning experiences to create experiences that meet children’s individual learning needs and interests.
To support the design of this content, PBS and CPB have developed Learning Frameworks for both Science and Literacy-ELA. These Frameworks provide our PBS KIDS content producers with guidelines for the appropriate skills and learning progressions for children in the PBS KIDS target age group. These Frameworks have been written with the support of our RTL Curriculum Advisory Board, are research-based, and align with the latest National and State Standards for preschool and grades K-2, while also taking into account recommendations and guidelines from key groups in early childhood education such as Head Start, NAEYC and the NSTA.
